Pair of fireside wheelback windsor elbow carver dining chairs: good quality reproductions made in the last 20 years probably. Elm seats with yew wood frames. Bentwood back and one piece arm bar; curved stretchers underneath meant for crinoline dresses (I never leave home out of one). This is known as a double bow; together with the pointed arms it was a traditional Thames Valley design of the 18th and 19th centuries. Really super scalloping to the seat (just asking for a buttock or two..). The more I look at these chairs the better I like them; they are very nicely handmade. Condition is pretty good: structurally there's not much wrong: some of the smaller joints underneath needed re-gluing; there's a minor chip to one arm (see pics) and some slight flex in the arm, though minor. Otherwise there's just a few scuffs to the finish here and there but barely anything. Dimensions: 55cm wide x 69cm x 103cm high (seat height 46cm)
